Thomas Bernstrand
Driven by curiosity and armed with a critical eye, designer Thomas Bernstrand is devoted to challenging our habitual perceptions, our understanding of things and where they belong. His works often involve unexpected shifts between contexts, resulting in particular design idioms and functionalities appearing in places where they have never been seen before.
Bernstrand’s works include his two renowned lamp series, Dikanyama and Shibuya, designed for Zero, and the Bob sofa, which he co-designed with Stefan Borselius for Blå Station. The dB sound-absorbing screen series is his first work for Abstracta.
Born in 1965 and based in Stockholm, Thomas Bernstrand studied at the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design and at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. He has received numerous Swedish and international design awards, and has exhibited at Colette in Paris and at MoMA in New York City.
